No Additional NWS Detections, At This Point
After the four initial confirmation of New World Screwworm in the United States, Thursday was a fairly quiet day for USDA. Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins was in south Texas Thursday, where the initial two cases of NWS were reported.
"We have released four million flies on the ground, but also four million from the air," Rollin said. "Other than that initial second detection, which was about five miles away, we've had no other detections in this area. It doesn't mean there won't be more, but this technology works.”

Rollins during that rancher’s roundtable in La Prior, TX, added a new USDA research facility in Kerrville, TX, located northwest of San Antonio, is playing a direct role in detection and eradication efforts.
“We have moved the actual testing from Iowa down to our brand-new facility," she said. "So very, very important to have the best scientists, best researchers, best technicians on the the field.”
Rollins also noted Thursday the calf where the first NWS case was detected, has completely healed and is ready to go back into the herd.
