USDA Lowers Steer Prices In This Week’s Forecast

This week’s USDA Steer Price Forecast showed lower numbers for both the remainder of 2026 as well as 2027.

“For 2026, we lowered the price forecast by $5.75 per cwt, so currently now forecast to average $245.35 per cwt for 2026 and $249.25 per cwt for 2027," noted World Agricultural Outlook Board Chair Mark Jekanowski.  "And that price decline for this month for both of those years really just reflects what we've been observed in recent price data, packers are offering less for cattle. They're also seeing their margins squeezed from recent declines in box beef prices as well.”

Jekanowski said a lot of that industry wide pressure is starting to work its way back to the cattle production sector.
