How Can Feed Additives Benefit Livestock In The Long Run?
Maybe you’ve heard the term before, but you’re not sure what the noise is all about. Feed additives in their most simple terms are used to support or enhance the nutritional program of your animal.
When he was a Ruminant Product Manager for Fortiva, NT Cosby told the PNW Ag Network additives can help your animals improve their resilience to stressors, resulting in higher quality product at the time of harvest. He added while cows are a resilient bunch, there are a lot of stressors that come in day in and day out.
“It's rarely just one stressor that starts the domino effect of the challenges that can occur," Cosby said. "It's often a combination of stressors that may include environmental extremes, social stressors, and diet changes that ultimately may cause that cow to have an immune response because of those stressors. And that really draws nutrients away from productive measures like milk production or average daily gain.”

Producers Need To Think About Their Return On Investment
Cosby said the producers and ranchers they’ve worked with have enjoyed solid results.
“With efficiency in beef cattle or in dairy cattle, when we can improve production while maintaining the same feed intake or improved quality that offers a significant ROI. And with amulet, it's improving the overall health of those animals, maybe fewer in the hospital pens, as well as offsetting the health challenges that can pull nutrients away from productive measures.”
Cosby added Fortiva is focused on building animal resilience.
