“The Next generation of glufosinate.”

That’s how BASF is describing their new Liberty Ultra herbicide.  Josh Putman, Technical Marketing Manager Herbicide at BASF noted Liberty Ultra can be used in glufosinate trade crops, such as canola, corn and soybeans.  He added this herbicide provides two new differentiating pieces of information.

“First is the Liberty Lock formulation," Putman said.  "And what that means is we're retaining and dispersing more herbicide on the leaf of our weeds, getting three times more herbicide into that weed to that target site where it's active.”

Treat More Acres

Putman added Liberty Ultra also has Glu-L Technology, meaning a reduced use rate, resulting in more acres treated.  Putman said Liberty Ultra is a great addition to the toolbox of any Northwest grower.

“We've taken the inactive isomers in the product, transformed them to become active, which means we have more active isomers in a gallon of product, for example, and we were able to decrease our rate by 25%," Putman said.  "So, easier handling for farmers. but really honing in on controlling problematic weeds. So, the Pacific Northwest, there's pigweed species, marestail, I believe kochia is a problem in some of those areas. So, this offers a new management tool on those Liberty-enabled canola acres.”
