BASF Introduces Canola Hybrid Designed For Warmer, Dryer Location

Earlier this year, BASF rolled out Invigor Gold L322, a canola hybrid designed to thrive in arid locations that experience higher heat and lower organic matters in the soil. BASF Canola Marketing Manager Albre Brown said this hybrid addresses two of the top issues limiting farming; unpredictability in the weather and the environment.

"And a farmer can anticipate a very predictable yield threshold," Brown said. "Even if you have a great year, then you can see a little bit more yield, but if you have a warmer, hotter, and drier year that might not be as favorable to traditional canola, that year will still support InVigor Gold and you can expect consistent yield performance with this hybrid.”

Brown added growers using Invigor Gold L322 can expect a beneficial earlier bloom.

“The main thing that this protects against is that drop in pollen viability," Brown noted. "For canola, as temperatures warm, pollen viability drops, so that earlier bloom timing, that earlier harvest timing for Invigor Gold canola allows that canola plant to maintain its yield and performance at harvest.”
