Milk Production Increased In April
When looking at the USDA’s April Dairy Outlook, there was a fairly sizeable month-over-month increase in dairy production.
“It just reflects a data revision increasing cow numbers based on the latest NASS report," said USDA World Agricultural Outlook Board Chair Mark Jankowski. "Also a little bit of an increase in milk per cow as well.”
Jankowski added there was a lowering of exports for nonfat, dry milk and whey, leading to increased domestic use in the dairy balance sheet.
“The higher production that we're showing this month, put prices across the board price forecasts we reduced this month not substantially.”
While not substantial, Jankowski says they were enough to reflect both month-over-month and year-over-year forecast reductions in milk class prices, a trend also found with the all-milk price, which was lowered in April by 50 cents. The all-milk now sits at $21.10 cwt, down $1.51 from April 2024’s price.
