Ag Secretary Working with Companies to Lower Input Prices
Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins is working directly with Ag input companies to address the still-rising costs of farmer inputs amid warnings of fertilizer supply shortages and ongoing disruptions.
Rollins told Fox News over the weekend that her agency wants significant relief for farmers. The Ag Secretary said this is an existential issue for our country.
“If we're not able to feed ourselves, if we continue to offshore a lot of our food supply, if we continue to import a lot of our food supply, if we keep losing these farmers and ranchers for other reasons because they can't make a living, then we will lose our country and we will lose freedom as we know it," Rollins said. "And that's a really important point. I love seeing all of America lean in right now in supporting agriculture, in supporting rural America. I think people are beginning to understand that this is really important for every American, not just those who are farming and ranching.”
Many farm economists says the high prices of fuel and fertilizer will most likely not just be a spring issue, but continue all the way into the fall. Diesel prices are nearing highs the U.S. hasn’t seen since 2022, and fertilizer prices have jumped in some cases by nearly 40%.
