Cooler, Wetter Weather As April Starts
Typically, it’s March that comes in like a lion, but it looks like that’s a role April will play this year. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey said the jet stream is dipping south as April gets underway, which will bring cooler weather.
“With that there will be some rain and snow showers," Rippey said. "Some of that could be locally heavy. Unfortunately, coming this late in the season, I don't think it's going to fundamentally change the water supply outlook for the western U.S., but we are not going to turn down any drop of precipitation at this point after this record-breaking warm and dry month of March.”
Rain showers are expected across the Northwest Wednesday and Thursday, but this cooler weather isn’t expected to last long. Models are showing a warming trend into the weekend and early next week, with many places climbing into the upper 60s, and some locations topping out in the upper 70s.
And when it comes to the 14 day forecast, Rippey said it looks like the West Coast will be warmer and drier than normal.
