
Feeder Cattle Futures Dipped Last Week, Sanders Notes
Here is a look the weekly livestock markets from last week. n Friday, the Washington sale barns had just under 1,300 head of cattle traded, compared to a week earlier, stocker and feeder cattle were stating a light test. In addition, the USDA's Greg Sanders noted feeder cattle futures fell $3.32 down to $5.72 across the nearby contracts.
“The CME feeder cattle index was backed down 48 cents on August 4th at $348.65," Sanders said. "Slaughter cows were firm to $9 higher, most advanced on lean type cows, and slaughter bulls were firm. Feeder steers made them large-frame 1s and 2s at 650 pounds sold for $3.60. Feeder heifers medium-large frame 1 and 2s, $4.50 to 500 pounds sold from $437.50 to $4.75. Slaughter cows on the boning utility sold from $173 to $181, and slaughter bulls yield grade 1 and 2s sold from $22450 to $233.50. Bred cows on a per head basis, medium-large frame 1 and 2s, that were 5 to 8 years old and that were 4 to 6 months bred weighing 1,300 to 1,500 pounds brought 3,600 to 3,750 per head.”
