Washington Cattlemen’s Association: Keep Eating Beef
When making food purchases, there are several things consumers keep in mind before spending money: quality, taste and of course prices. Many consumers believe that beef is not as healthy as chicken or fish. But, Chelsea Hajny, Executive Vice President of the Washington Cattlemen’s Association said that’s simply not true.
“Our leaner cuts are equally high in protein and as lean as some of the other cuts. And so we appreciate all the love. We feel like we are just ecstatic with the trend that we're on.”
Beef Is So Many Great Things
Hajny noted despite beef prices at the retail level increasing over the past year-plus, consumers have been very faithful to beef.
“We just hope that people continue to choose beef as their primary protein source at all eating opportunities. It's lean, it's healthy. You know, ultimately consumers pick it over the other protein sources because it tastes better. It's delicious.”
How much longer will prices remain elevated?
Hajny said that’s hard to say.
Currently, most producers aren’t holding on to their females, because they can get so much money at sale. And until that changes, the size of the national herd won’t change much.
Herd expansion and prices, will most likely be topics of conversation at the Washington Cattlemen’s Association’s 100th annual convention, taking place November 12-14 in Wenatchee.
