The 2025 winter wheat harvest is in its twilight, as 86% of the nation’s crop has been harvested as of Sunday August 3rd.  That’s one point behind both last year’s number, and the five-year average.

“A big gain from where we started off with that early harvest delay in the South due to heavy rain," said USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey.  "Increasing list of states reaching the 100% completion mark on harvest, and that does include top producer Kansas coming in this week at 100% harvested just ahead of the five-year average of 99%.”

Rippey noted that harvest in the northern states is starting to pick up as well.

"Still a little behind on the progress in states like Montana, 30% harvested despite doubling their progress from the previous week of 15%.  Typically at this date, August 3rd, the Montana harvest is 40% complete," he said.  " Also moving along pretty nicely in the Northwest Washington state, moving up to 54% harvested this week.  Five-year average is just 45%.”

As of August 3rd, 68% of Oregon’s winter wheat crop has been harvested, slightly behind the five-year average of 70%.  Meanwhile, 33% of Idaho’s crop has been harvested, which is ahead of the five-year average of 29%.
