Spring is just a few days old, so wildfires may not be top of mind right now.  But wildfires have become very common, if not expected, every summer and fall here in the Pacific Northwest.

With that in mind, USDA is reminding growers and ranchers that recovery assistance is available through the Department.

“The standing disaster programs, these are programs that either exist because of congressional action through a Farm Bill or maybe a separate piece of legislation," said USDA Undersecretary for Farm Production and Conservation Richard Fordyce.  "They exist. And I think that's important because they're ready to assist right now.”

Fordyce advises affected producers to have documents to present to local USDA service centers when applying for wildfire recovery assistance.

“Retain the receipts or the invoices when you're purchasing fencing material and then also photographs.”

More information about USDA wildfire assistance programs is available at local offices on the USDA’s Website.
