Warm Dry Weather Leaves with September

The Inland Northwest has enjoyed beautiful sunny weather over the past couple of days, which has been welcomed news for farmers and non-ag alike.  But, Dennis Hull with the National Weather Service says you only have a few more days to enjoy that nice weather before a system rolls in from the Pacific this weekend.

“We’re actually going to have temperatures in the 60s for this weekend and the early part of next week. So, dropping off quite a bit from this warm dry weather that we’re having today, Thursday and even Friday.”

Hull says not only will the temperatures drop but the region should get beneficial rains as well.  Hull noted we’ll see an active start of October which will impact not only those still harvesting,

“So all in all, your opportunities for harvest of hay and corn and onions, potatoes, and even sugar beats, is going to be kind of more limited.  Even planting and seeding winter wheat is going to be is going to be more limited.  Of course the moisture is going to be beneficial for wheat that’s emerged already, and getting it off to a good start.”

Hull added spraying over the next couple of days could be challenging with wind speeds picking up ahead of this weekend’s weather system.
