NWS: Don’t Expect A White New Year

Much of the Inland Northwest woke up to a pleasant surprise Christmas morning.  A white Christmas is the dream of local kids and Big Crosby, but as Dennis Hull with the National Weather Service pointed out, the snow is excellent news for dryland growers.

"Pretty good cover for the winter wheat and the Canola because it did get down into the single digits there Sunday morning, Christmas Eve morning, so it’s very good to have that protective snow cover.”

Hull said he doesn’t expect the area to receive much if any additional snow in the coming days.  In fact he said it looks like the moisture will continue to roll in from the Pacific, but the snow will start to disappear.

“By Friday, it looks like the warmer air will be fairly well in place, so we’re looking for mainly rain on Friday.”

Hull says the warmer temperatures are expected to continue into the New Year.
