West Coast Finally Seeing Some Weather
This winter has been a dry one up and down the west coast, but that is changing, at least for this week.
"Approximately six-week period has left snowpack really languishing across much of the West," said USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey. "Only the Northern Rockies made it through this dry spell with effectively snowpack that is still slightly below normal to near normal."
Wet Weather Expected Through This Weekend
Rippey said the return of stormy conditions this week includes several separate systems.
“California is ground zero,' Rippey said. "For a lot of the storminess, the storms are taking a southeastern path out of the North Pacific and then turning eastward right through California, and that is helping to unleash significant valley rainfall, quite a bit of mountain snow.”
As well as concerns such as flash floods, debris flows, and high winds.
What For Snow In The Higher Elevations Of The Northwest
The Northwest is expected to see some notable precipitation totals from this week’s systems, brining rain to the lower elevations, and snow to many of the higher spots. In fact, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Oregon Cascades through early Friday.
