According to the latest USDA Food Prices Outlook, food prices moved higher, both month-over-month and year-over-year.

 

"For all food prices increased by .2% in December and they were 2.5% higher than they were in December of 2023,” noted USDA economist Megan Sweitzer.  She added, when comparing food prices at home versus food away from home; better known as grocery prices versus restaurant prices.

 

“Food at home, prices rose by .1% in December, and were 1.8% higher than they were prior. And then food away from home prices, rose by .3% in December and were 3.6% higher than they were at this time last year.” 

 

Sweitzer said the projection for 2025 food prices, overall prices are expected to rise at a rate similar to this past year and at a slower pace than the historical average rate of growth.
