When it comes to addressing and removing weeds, growers across the Northwest and across the county could soon get some much-needed help.  Solinftec, an ag company that focused on artificial intelligence and robotics for agribusiness, is offering a new tool for farmers wanting to control weeds.  At the recent Farm Progress Show in Iowa, the company announced a rolling platform that runs on solar power that scouts and target weeds on its own.  Plus, company officials said  there’s a new autonomous filling station just introduced for the Solix Ag Robot.

“System is essentially acting as a rolling residual, maintaining that field throughout the entire season, taking care of those weeds early and often when they're small," said Solinftec's Taylor Wetli.  "Obviously when they're smaller, they're easier to kill, but you can also optimize chemical usage at that point as well.”

Wetli added Solix Ag Robot would be ideal for controlling weeds in garlic, onion and other specialty crops.

“We're training the AI on and beginning to utilize the platform in those crops as well. So really the platform is meant to be utilized across a wide variety of different crops across different regions as well.”

He noted the Ag robot is currently being marketed in the Midwest, but company officials do have plans to introduce the technology out west.
