Taranis Using Drones, AI To Provide Farmers Insights They Need

Technology is coming at the farming community fast; whether that’s AI, drones, or in the case of Taranis, both.

Chief Commercial Officer at Taranis Jason Minton said they are a drone-powered AI company, providing actionable insights to farmers and advisors when it comes to pests, diseases and other yield impacting factors.  Minton said they provide leaf level photos, roughly three tenths of a millimeter resolution, on every single acre of the farm.

And he noted Taranis is completely full-service.

“So there's really nothing that the farmer has to do, other than tell them which acres they would like to have flown," Minton said.  "Basically what they need to do then is wait for those insights to come back. So, from the time the farmer plants till the time they harvest, Taranis will come out six different times throughout the season, and those are agronomically determined time points, to find actionable insights that you can actually deliver something on and respond to. That's why this solution is delivered through retail to advisors so they can better serve their growers.”

Insights Turned Around Quickly

Minton added thanks to their “AI to Action”, Taranis can help growers focus on improving ROI.

“AI to Action delivers the leaf-level images and the machine learning where AI is able to assess every single image," Minton said.  "We're also using a ChatGPT-like model, language model, to help build a recommendation that goes right in the advisor's hands, again, to the advisor, so they can customize it and get it to their growers so they can effectively serve their growers.  Before they've left their desk in the first five minutes of the morning, the fields that were flown yesterday, they'll have all those insights ready to go to their farmer to take action and do something."

Minton stressed that AI does not replace people, workers or agronomists; it’s simply a tool that allows those individuals to better do their job.
