Record Global Wheat Production Expected
The USDA is expecting another global record wheat crop in the upcoming marketing year. USDA World Agricultural Outlook Board Chair Mark Jekanowski said the current forecast for the new crop year is 808.5 million tons. So, why the increase?
“A big rebound in production in the. EU, which we. Have up about 13.9 million metric tons."
Smaller American Crop Expected This Year
When it comes to the first look at the U.S. balance sheet for the 2025-2026 marketing year, Jekanowski said the USDA has production down for the new crop year.
“Other changes to the domestic balance sheet include a little bit of reduction in U.S. wheat imports. That's 30 million bushels less, mainly of hard Red Spring and Durham. We expect food use to continue to climb and hit a new record of 977 million bushels in the new year," Jekanowski noted. "U.S. exports, we have down 20 million bushels right at 800 million bushels for the new crop year and that's just reflecting the abundant global supplies and a lot of competitive supplies out there, making it harder for U.S. wheat to gain a foothold or especially grow in that market.”
Jekanowski said ending stocks for the new crop year would be the highest in six years, at 923 million bushels, and the new crop year season average price forecast starts out at $5.30, down 20 cents per bushel year-over-year.
