According to numbers from the recent Organic Survey released by the USDA, sales of certified organic commodities increased 31% increase between 2016 and 2019. Livestock and poultry products, primarily milk and eggs, continue to be the top revenue generator, but only increased by only 12% during that three year time period. Crops increased by 38% while poultry reported a 44% jump in sales. The number of operations nationwide increased 17%, while was land dedicated to organic production increased 9%.

Nationally organic products account for $9.9 billion in sales annually. When looking at the top states for organic sales in 2019, California led the way at just under $3.6 billion. Washington came in at #2 with $886 million in sales, Oregon’s $454 million in sales put them #4 on the list, and Idaho rounded out the top ten with $206 million in sales.
