Idaho’s Milk Production Up, Washington’s Numbers Fall
Milk production in the 24 major milk-producing states in June totaled 18.5 billion pounds, up 3.4% year over year.
In the Northwest, Idaho’s production topped 1.5 billion pounds, a 9.7% increase from June 2024. That increase was due to an increase in the statewide herd size as well as more milk per cow.
Oregon’s production slipped 1.9% to 204 million pounds.
Meanwhile, Washington’s milk production fell 9.4% thanks to a slightly reduced herd size, as well as a noticeable dip in milk per cow.
Nationwide, the biggest year over year increase in milk was reported in Kansas, while the biggest drop in Milk production was Washington.
In addition, USDA also revised May’s production number to 19.3 billion pounds, a 2.4 % increase from May 2024. That revision represented an increase of 136 million pounds or 0.7% from last month’s preliminary production estimate.
