Newhouse Not Worried That Perdue Hearings Have Not Been Scheduled

It’s been seven weeks since then President-elect Trump named former Governor Sonny Perdue his nomination to head the USDA.  And at this point, a confirmation hearing has yet to be set.  According to Representative Dan Newhouse, the delay has come because of delays in Perdue submitting the needed paperwork on his financial history.

“I’ve been assured it’s not a reflection on priority or importance that agriculture ended up being the last nomination made, but only as a result of the long process, interviewing and vetting  and trying to find the right qualified individual.”

Newhouse acknowledges that some in the ag community are concerned, but he says it’s not time to panic.

“We’ve actually had good conversation with the transition team.  But we will continue putting pressure on that we’ll get a leader here soon.”

The American Farm Bureau says not having a USDA Director means ag work in Washington D.C. move at a very slow pace.
