Mulrony: Improved Feed Prices Good News For Cattle Producers
While things are good in the livestock sector right now, most producers will tell you it can still get better. Cameron Mulrony, Executive Vice President of the Idaho Cattle Association, said one area that’s improved for producers as of recent, is feed prices, which he noted has dipped from the $300 per ton operators were paying just a few years ago.
“Part of that is, you know, there's a volume of hay, folks in that process learned how to maybe feed some other things in a in a ration or in a mix to kind of offset some of the cost there. The hay grower as to be able to make money too, but it is beneficial to us that it softens some because $300 a ton was going to put guys out of business.”
Mulrony said he expects the upswing the cattle market has enjoyed to continue well into 2025. He added with herd size sill low, nationally, and beef demand high, he doesn’t expect a drastic price change in the immediate future.
