Lyon Appointed Oregon State Corvallis Farm Union Director
Oregon State University recently announced that Ben Lyon has been appointed Regulatory and Safety Compliance Officer and Corvallis Farm Unit Director in the College of Agricultural Sciences.
OSU said Lyon, who started his new role November 1st, brings more than a decade of hands-on agricultural and management experience to this role, including extensive work overseeing large-scale crop production, farm operations, and safety programs in Oregon.
Lyon most recently served as Farm Manager for OSU’s Vegetable Research Farm, where he was responsible for planning and managing research plots, coordinating field operations, and ensuring safety standards.
Lyon Has A Lengthy History In Agriculture
Before joining Oregon State University, Lyon was a Crop Manager and Safety Manager for Green Spring Farms, where he managed approximately 2,000 acres of vegetable crops annually, both organic and conventional, and led all aspects of field operations and crew management. He also brings experience as U.S. General Manager for Waringa Agriculture, where he helped launch the company’s U.S. branch, establishing dealer networks, training agricultural professionals, and expanding markets for innovative fertilizer and equipment products.
School officials say throughout his career, Lyon has demonstrated a "strong commitment to operational excellence, safety, and collaboration. His leadership has brought together faculty, staff, and industry partners to improve research infrastructure, streamline operations, and enhance safety culture across agricultural programs. His broad expertise, from production management and safety training to equipment research and international agricultural collaboration, positions him to lead the Corvallis Farm Unit and support compliance efforts across the college’s research network."
This Will Strengthen OSU's Research Farms
“Ben’s deep agricultural knowledge, leadership experience, and commitment to safety make him an outstanding fit for these roles,” said Jackie Thorsness, Chief Operating Officer for the College of Agricultural Sciences. “His ability to connect people and processes will help strengthen our research farms and ensure we maintain the highest standards of compliance and operational efficiency.”
