Judge Denies Request To Prevent Removal Of Sherman Pack Wolf
On Friday, a King County Superior Court judge denied the request for a preliminary injunction to prevent the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife from lethally removing a wolf from the Sherman pack in Ferry County. Washington Wildlife First and other parties sought to block the removal, which WDFW approved on October 9th. The authorization subsequently expired on October 15th.
Judge Suzanne Parisien of King County Superior Court judge found the petitioners had not established a likelihood of prevailing on the merits of the case.
WDFW initially permitted the lethal removal of one wolf after six depredations were confirmed in the region in a ten month window. As this case was being considered, another non-lethal depredation was reported in Ferry County, on October 23rd.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife did not indicate if it will move forward with plans to remove a wolf from the Sherman pack.
