How Can Supplements Help Livestock Producers Address Questions?
We hear a lot about additives and supplements for livestock, but sometimes all of that information can make your head swim as a producer. Stacie Crowder, Director of Fortiva Additive Sales and Technical Innovation, said when evaluating what’s right for your operation, it’s important producers understand the specific challenges they are trying to address.
“Is it pounds of meat that they're trying, that they don't feel like their animals are getting to a certain weight by a period of time that they need? Or is it a health issue? And so we focus on non-medication feed additives that actually have a mode of action in the digestive system so that we're actually helping the animals digest the feed that they're already eating, or nutrient utilization, to get more out of that feed dollar that you're already spending.”
Crowder said when looking at supplements, it also needs to make economic sense.
We Look To Stretch The Farmer's Dollar
She added sustainability is at the heart of many of their technologies.
“When you think about business resilience and getting more out of that diet that you've already got, any product that we have, from a feed conversion standpoint, we're getting that animal to a heavier weight with less input of the feed it stretches that feed," Crowder said. "So, now you've got that spread across more animals, and we're able to help them produce more pounds with less input. And so, when you think about sustainability, that is probably the biggest key is we can actually affect efficiencies.”
Crowder encourages producers who have never tried a supplement or an additive to start slowly and reach out to Fortiva via their Website, to make sure those short-term and long-term goals are in focus.
