Commodity Prices Dropped In July

USDA says an over 2% month-over-month drop in the Department’s latest crop production price index played its part in a 1.4% decline in what producers in total received price-wise for their commodities from June to July.

The commodity price index lowering was attributed to decreases in what feed grain, food grain, and oil seed growers received price-wise in June. The month-over-month declines of over 3%, almost 4%, and 2 1/2% respectively. This offset gains in both fruit and tree nut and vegetable and melon prices received categories.

Livestock producers, meanwhile, saw a 0.1% rise in what they received price-wise from the prior month. This is despite meat animal prices received unchanged in June and decreases in the dairy and poultry and egg price index for the month.”
