The value of U.S. exports of so-called bulk commodities, such as wheat, corn, soybeans, and cotton continue to struggle.  The USDA says the export of those high-profile commodities are down 14% year-over-year.  Department of Ag economist Bart Kenner says more exports of high value products are helping to make up the difference.

“We have seen an increase in some of these high-value exports.  We've got a 20% increase in the export value of tree nuts, 10% increase in exports of prepared and preserved vegetables and a 16% increase in the exports of fresh fruits.”

Kenner added overall the export sales of high-value products are doing “very well”.  Exports of those products are up 4% from this time last year.
