Grow This! Back For Another Season
Oregon State University’s “Grow This Oregon Garden Challenge” returns for another year. Professor Lauren Tobey said teachers get whole classrooms involved, but anyone living in the state can also request free seeds.
“For the households, they will receive sunflowers, lettuce and pea pods; and those can be grown regularly or as microgreens," she noted. "Teachers will receive lettuce, sunflowers and summer squash.”
Tobey said it’s an opportunity to increase access and consumption of fresh vegetables, and kids learn good life lessons.
“They learn about going out in the garden, getting outside; we have the bee project connected to this, so not being scared of bees, learning about what bees do for Oregon.”
She said they also practice math and reading skills. Click Here to sign up.
The free seed packets will be mailed out in the next week or two.
