Public comments are being accepted through January 27th on a final rule designed to expand producer access to crop insurance and other risk protections.   RMA Administrator Pat Swanson said the department is focused on the Expanding Access to Risk Protection final rule.

“How to reduce burdensome regulations and burdensome paperwork for our farmers just to help make the program more accessible for our farmers and easier for our agents to deliver of the programs," Swanson said.

Among those aspects of EARP scheduled to take effect beginning in the 2026 crop year, improve land access through preventative planting relief, streamlined production reporting to crop insurance agents, simplification of dispute resolution processes, and placing policy dates like end of insurance in policy provisions to create greater flexibilities on the county level.

Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins noted “with this new rule, we are delivering real, meaningful relief by modernizing the system, expanding access to crop insurance, and making it easier, not harder, for farmers and ranchers to protect their operations and keep doing the work that keeps America fueled and fed.”
