USApple is out with its latest holding survey, which shows fresh and processing numbers headed in opposite directions.

 

As of March 1st, USApple says fresh apple holdings totaled 73.1 million bushels, a 9% year-over-year drop, and 2% less than the five-year average.  Meanwhile, processing apple holdings totaled 35.2 million bushels, a 9% jump from 2025’s numbers and a 16% increase from the March five-year average.

Washington continues to lead the nation in apple holdings, with 68.4 million bushels.  Of that, 48 million are fresh while nearly 20 million bushels are for processing.  Other top apple holding states including New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Virginia rounding out the top five.

The total number of apples in storage on March 1st was 108 million bushels, 4% less than last year, and 6% more than the five-year average.
