Apple Holding Numbers Mixed For February
According to USApple, the number of fresh apples holdings to start the month is off from this time last year, while apples earmarked for processing were up.
As of February 1st, fresh U.S. apple holdings totaled 86 million bushels, 7% less than the inventories reported February last year, but 3% higher than the five-year average. When looking at processing apple holdings, that numbers totaled 41 million bushels, a 10% jump from last year, and 17% higher than the February five-year average.
When it comes to movement, USApple reported 14 million fresh apple holding bushels were moved from January, while 5.5 million bushels were moved for processing.
When it comes to a state by state breakdown, Washington by far has the most apples in storage, both fresh and processing, followed by New York and Michigan.
