Women In Ag Conference To Focus On Communication

Washington State University Extension will host the 2016 Women in Agriculture Conference Saturday. The Conference will be simulcast in 31 locations across Washington, Idaho, Oregon Montana and Alaska.  WSU Douglas County Extension’s Margaret Viebrock told the Washington Ag Network this is one of the few conferences that comes to the farmer.

“So after at looking at a lot of different locations over the last several years these are the ones that we chose.”

Viebrock said the face of agriculture has changed dramatically in the 21^st century and women have a more pivotal role.

“Right now nationally, 30% of the farms are owned by women and that percentage is real similar in the state of Washington as well a lot of them are the main producers and the main owners some of them work side by side with a partner or their husband but they are all considered owners of the operation so it’s expanded a lot.”

Viebrock said this year’s conference will focus on helping farm women as well as new and aspiring farmers improved their communication skills.
