The goal of the USDA's Community Facilities Direct Loan Program is to help rural communities build or improve facilities or essential services.

 

“They can be used for  public facilities such as town halls, court houses, airport hangars, street improvements, community support services, child care centers or communities centers, fairgrounds, transitional housing for recovering addicts.”

Indiana Rural developments director Michael Dora, said public safety is a priority, and that includes fire departments, police stations, prisons and much more.  He added educational services is another top priority.

 

“We can loan money for museums, libraries, or private schools, so a large array of community facilities in smaller rural towns rural counties we can help fund.”

 

This year the program is investing $68 million to help residents in 13 states and Puerto Rico.
