Starting next week, the U.S. Geological Survey and Idaho Department of Water Resources will measure groundwater levels in up to 400 private and public wells across the Treasure Valley and Payette Valley.  The effort runs September 28th through October 9th, supplementing IDWR’s routine monitoring of about 200 wells.

“This is essentially a snapshot of the aquifer,” said Ryan McCutcheon, IDWR Project Manager.  “Well owners' participation is crucial, as private wells are a valuable source of information, and  the more wells we can measure, the better our picture of the aquifer’s current state and its long-term and seasonal trends.”

Officials said the aquifer supplies drinking water, irrigation and flow to the Boise River.  Selected well owners are being asked for permission to participate.

Results will be available through IDWR’s Groundwater Data Portal.
