Idaho water users will see more than $36 million in state funding aimed at improving water infrastructure and management.  On Friday, the Idaho Water Resource Board approved 67 aging-infrastructure grants totaling $35.6 million.  The projects are expected to modernize systems and improve water-delivery efficiency for a wide range of users statewide.

Nine additional grants will help Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer groundwater districts convert irrigation from groundwater to more secure surface-water supplies.  Seven of those grants went to the Bingham Groundwater District.

The board also approved nearly $500,000 for water measurement and monitoring projects.

IWRB said the funding is part of Idaho’s efforts to improve water infrastructure, management and long-term sustainability.  The board also approved water transactions designed to maintain or improve flows for endangered salmon and steelhead in three Upper Salmon River tributaries.
