IDWR: Water Rights Claims Must Be Filed For Adjudication

The Idaho Department of Water Resources is mailing about 5,500 notices to property owners in the Kootenai River Basin, reminding water users they must file claims for the basin’s water rights adjudication.  The deadline to file is June 4th, 2027.

IDWR will hold claims-taking and information workshops September 22nd through 24th at the Boundary County Fairgrounds, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  A Notice of Claim is required for most water uses.

Small domestic and stock water rights can be deferred, but IDWR recommends filing now. The filing fee for those claims is $25.
