The USDA is estimating a smaller winter wheat crop. The numbers for July dropped 3% month-over-month, with the forecast now at 1.35 billion bushels. However, yield forecast from June rose 1/2 bushel recorded at over 54 bushels per acre.   If realized that yield figure would be the second highest for winter wheat since 2016.

Winter wheat production forecast by variety, includes hard red winter down 4%, soft red winter down 2% and white winter down slightly.

When it comes to the winter wheat harvest here in the Northwest:

  • 5% of Washington crop has been harvested
  • 4% of Idaho’s winter wheat crop has been harvested
  • 13% of Oregon’s crop has been harvested

All three of those figures are in line with the respective five-year averages.
