A North Portland company is looking to make a dent in the housing shortage in rural Oregon.  Through a partnership with the USDA, the modular building company has unveiled a new workforce housing option.  The panels for the homes are created with mass timber.

“It is a highly efficient, healthy building that can be part of the solution to solve Oregon’s housing crisis. Particularly, in rural areas," said Margi Hoffman Oregon’s Rural Development Director.  She added “Mods-PDX” is also creating urban and rural jobs to build the homes.

“They’re manufactured, actually, in Lyons, OR. The panels are then shipped to a warehouse in North Portland, where the units are assembled. And then they are deployed around the state."

The first house, unveiled a few weeks ago, will eventually go to John Day.  Hoffman said they could also be used for families who lose their home to wildfire; or to house farm-workers.
