NW Drought Numbers A Mixed Bag For Early November
Drought numbers improved slightly in Washington, with 34% of the state where it should be soil moisture wise this time of year. While that news is an improvement from last week, 44% of the state is under a D-1 or Moderate Drought designation, and 9% is under a D-2, or Severe Drought. And those numbers are much improved from the figures we saw this time last year.
In Oregon, the percentage of the state that is abnormally dry for this time of year has improved to 74%, down from last week’s 90%. While 64% of the state is under a Moderate Drought, no other more severe designations are in place across Oregon right now. Unfortunately for Idaho, soil moisture number did not change this week.
Currently 92% of the state is considered abnormally dry, with 63% under the Severe Drought. Idaho is also the only state to report Extreme Drought, which is found in Lemhi County, along the Montana border in the Rocky Mountains.
