Northwest Free of Drought

After a long, dry summer, this is welcomed news.  Both Washington and Oregon are free of USDA drought designations.  According to the Department of Ag, fall rains and snow have replenished the soil moisture across both states.  While Washington did not climb into a severe drought this year, for much of the spring and summer, the state was in the D1 or Moderate Drought classification.  The most intense part of this year’s dry weather was early September, when 78% of Washington was under the D1 classification.

Oregon was in a similar situation, where 43% of the state was under a Moderate drought in early September.
