The month of June roared in over the week on a hot note.  With temperatures reported in the up 80's for most of the Inland northwest, and some 90's reported, especially near the Washington/Oregon border.  Marilyn Lohmann, with the National Weather Service, said if that heat wave took you by surprise, you’re not alone.  She said we saw temperatures anywhere from 10-15 degrees above average.

“Normally, this time of year we should be starting in to the low to mid 70s, kind of depending where you are, with lower 70s to the north, then Tri-Cities, Moses Lake, Yakima areas with more mid 70s readings.”

Temperatures are expected to moderate this week, and we could see isolated showers, Wednesday and Thursday.  Lohmann said it’s important to remember that June is still a transitional month.

“We have that coming here again through this week, where we kind of go from some cool temperatures at times, to those quite warm temperatures, like we saw last weekend, or even temperatures well above normal into 90 degree readings aren’t that uncommon.”

Lohmann said models are indicating that June will be a hotter than normal, and perhaps dryer than normal month.
