2024 Weather One For The Record Books, OSU Study Shows
The climate continues to change. A new report shows 2024 had the hottest temperatures in at least 125,000 years, and humans are the cause. Dr. Jillian Gregg, at Oregon State University, said it's not too late to change.
"So the goal is not just for the rise in these greenhouse gasses to level off, but we need for them to go back to their pre-industrial levels so that we can maintain a stable climate system," she noted.
Gregg said renewable energy is a big part of the solution, but she said the current administration hurts that conversion.
"Revocation of tax credits to encourage solar and wind and electric vehicles is unfortunate and certainly not helpful."
Gregg said besides renewable energy, ecosystems need to be protected and food waste needs to be reduced. Food waste, she noted, causes at least 8% of greenhouse gas emissions.
