Use Caution During Hot Northwest Weather
Oregon law requires employers to protect workers from the summer heat. Aaron Corvin, with Oregon OSHA, said the rules start at 80 degrees and increase at 90 degrees.
"It's a series of steps and they include providing adequate water, rest, shade," Corvin said. "Making sure that your workers are being gradually adapted to working in the heat."
Corvin added heat can cause illness and even death. OSHA is ready to help employers if they have questions.
"It just comes down to making sure that workers get what they need when they work in the heat," he noted.
OSHA offers training for employers and employees. They also have consultation services for employers who need help finding the right solutions.
