The state of Idaho is looking at expanding who is eligible for depredation compensation.  The Idaho Farm Bureau Federation’s Dex Lake said House Bill 82 aims to include livestock losses deemed “possible” wolf or grizzly bear depredations.

“Currently, Idaho set aside $150,000 annually to compensate ranchers for confirmed and probable depredation claims," Lake said.  "However, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture reports that most claims are classified as “possible” and receive no compensation. House Bill 82 would change that and maintain a priority system of “confirmed” cases being paid first, then “probable” then “possible”.  All payments would be subject to prorating based on the number of claims filed.”
