BASF says they are ready to help growers reshape the canola industry, thanks to the launch of InVigor Gold.

Matt Smith, Seed Agronomist – West U.S., with BASF says InVigor Gold is the first canola-quality Brassica juncea hybrid, engineered to thrive where traditional canola falls short.  Smith said growers will notice several changes, such as quicker emergence out of the soil for starters.

“Just physiologically, the plants are a little bit different looking. The pods look different when that plant gets closer to maturity. And overall maturity is quite a bit earlier," Smith said.  "So, when we talk our current Brassica napus hybrids, we've pushed those maturities down pretty early comparatively to what things say it used to be 10 years ago, but this will be another step change beyond that even.”

This Provides Another Revenue Option For Growers

Smith noted because yellow-seeded canola can now enter the same processing stream as traditional canola, InVigor Gold creates a new revenue opportunity and can support long-term sustainability.

Much of the work on and testing of InVigor Gold has taken place across the northern Great Plains as well parts of Canada.  So, when will growers in the PNW have an opportunity to select InVigor Gold?  Smith said for the region, InVigor Gold is on the radar.

“I can't fully answer that question right now as far as when official launch will be in that market," Smith said.  "But the fact that they're allowing me as a seed agronomist to do testing with the hybrid we're going to launch in the PNW this year, and we'll continue to do that next year, should be a solid positive indicator for growers out there if they're interested in this product.”
