The final weeks of spring felt like a seesaw for much of the region, with temperatures bouncing between hot and cold, with the Inland Northwest currently in a cool period right now.  Marilyn Lohmann with the National Weather Service said temperatures for the past week are anywhere from three to five degrees below normal, but that does not mean we experienced a cooler than normal Spring.

“The last 30 days or so, we are actually above normal temperature wise, and a lot of that has to do with, we had a number of days that were quite warm and the nighttime temperatures were quite warm.  And that actually occurred a lot in late May as well, so about the last 60 days our temperatures have been a little bit warmer than normal.”

With the cooler weather over the last couple of days, we’ve had a chance to improve our precipitation numbers, right?

“It’s been quite a dry month, looking back over the last 30 days our precipitation amounts have only been about 25%-50% of normal over a lot of the area.  We have had some hit or miss showers early on, but then dry the last couple of weeks. And that’s really taken a toll on that soil moisture.”

Lohman said looking over the next week, we’ll have cool cloudy weather with a chance of isolated showers.  She said the best chance of rain for much of the area comes Wednesday evening, but accumulations should be less than ¼”.  She noted temperatures are expected to start climbing again as we get into the month of July.
