SePRO Ag says their pre-emergent herbicide, Brake On!, is a great fit for the specialty crops grown across Washington and Oregon.  Jeff Perrotti, Technical Rep for SePRO Ag in the Pacific Northwest said Brake On! has a unique mode of action relative to other residual herbicides used in permanent crops.  He noted there’s a lot of flexibility when it comes to time of application.

"Traditionally growers look at either a fall application or spring up application. Either one of those will work great. We've got a 30-day pre harvest interval on these crops and I do know a lot of growers have gone in either 30-day pre harvest or maybe a post-harvest application in season to take care of certain herbicide needs.”

Perrotti noted that Brake On! is taken up by the roots and readily translocated making it ideally suited for pre-emergence use, controlling annual grass and broadleaf weeds, including weeds that have developed resistance to other herbicides.  He continued that one of the biggest advantages Brake On! has over other herbicides currently on the market, is crop safety, meaning it can be applied to young trees and vines.

"Also along with that is being a group twelve, means that it is a different group of active ingredient even though it works as a pre-emergent.  What that means is it can be rotated in with a lot of the existing pre-emergent herbicides for resistance management play to help extend the life of all the products we have in the market that we’re using."

Perrotti added growers continually tell him that they like the residual activity of Brake On! especially for permanent crops grown here in the Northwest..
