The Dairy Farmers of Washington welcomed about 1,200 dairy farmers and others from the industry for the National Holstein Convention which is Washington for the first time ever.

CEO of the Dairy Farmers Scott Kinney said there will be something for everyone, but there’s a huge focus on future dairy farmers.

“These are people who are in love with these animals and who are taking care of the herd. They’re coming here to see the latest, what’s new in dairy farming. What’s new in Holstein breeding and doing a lot of socializing.”

It ends up with a big sale of some of the best bred cows in the country going up for auction on Saturday.

Kinney said this allows them to tell their story, not only to the general public, but to others within the industry, plus they’ll showcase the Seattle area along with Whatcom County with tours and events.

“The dairy farmers in Washington are going to be there with us as well helping us tell that story and that’s important for us just to get the exposure to this large of a crowd.”

Attendees will also get to see cows in a nice hotel in Bellevue which has to be worth it’s own weight in fun.
