As more and more dairy producers embrace the benefits of genomic testing within their herds, the dairy industry had tried to keep up with demand.  This summer, as part of the 2019 National Holstein Convention, dairy producers will gather for a National Genetics Conference, and look back on the first 10 years of genomic testing.

Lindsey Worden, Executive Director of Holstein Genetics for Holstein Association USA said they have a jam-packed agenda this summer, and all dairy producers should try to get back to Wisconsin.  She noted the National Genetics Conference, will bring together leaders from all sectors of the dairy industry; from scientists and researchers, industry professionals and innovative dairy breeders.

“Different people have different levels of experience with genomics, genetics and dairy cattle breeding. We want to set the stage, bring everybody to where we are today, what we know today, and do some forecasting for the future. So those are the themes of the two half-days.”

Worden said over the past decade, genomic testing has greatly evolved, including new traits, tools and new ways to manage genomic data.

“It’s progressed really rapidly, so we’d just like to have a conversation and make sure, first of all, that everyone is aware of what tools are available, understand the importance of testing and what information you can get from that and how you can practically use it on your farming operation to better manage your dairy.”

The National Genetics Conference is open to all dairy producers, with no cost to attend.  Click Here to learn more or to register.  The pre-registration deadline is May 25th.
